Parent/Child (6-36 months)
These classes focus on safe water exploration with songs, games, and basic water skills. The parent accompanies the child in the water. This class is designed as an introduction to the aquatic environment.
Preschool (3-5 years)
Pike
This class is designed for beginners. Children have the opportunity to adjust to the water and develop independent movement through the water.
Eel
This class is designed for children who are comfortable putting their faces in the water and who can swim horizontally 5 feet unassisted. Children are taught to float, kick, dive and perform progressive arm movements across the pool on their front and back.
Ray/Starfish
A class for children who can swim horizontally across the pool 15-20 feet on their front and back with their face in the water. This level works on building endurance, and rotary breathing.
Youth (6 years and up)
Polliwog
This is a beginner level class for those uncomfortable with the water. This class teaches basic water skills including gliding with face in the water, floating, and kicking. Breath control is also an emphasized component.
Guppy
A child that can swim 15-20 feet horizontal and unassisted with their face in the water can enter this level. This class teaches swimming on front, back, side, and emphasizes rhythmic breathing.
Minnow
A child must be able to swim 25 yards on their front and back to enter this level. This level will enhance the previous skills as well as teach breaststroke.
Youth Conditioning Swim Class
Conditioning swim classes are designed to help create healthy exercise habits and refine techniques. The course can be a useful tool for kids to prepare for the swim team. Check out the lobby for dates and times.
Rockwall Riptides Swim Team
The swim team is a year round competitive program. School year workouts are in the afternoon. New swimmers must be at the YMCA minnow level or above, and must be able to swim one or more lengths of the pool, depending on age, to be eligible to join the swim team. Private/Semi-Private Lessons
Personalized one-on-one attention for children and adults ages 3 years and older. We will provide 8 lessons of 30 minutes each or a combination thereof with a certified instructor. To register for private lessons, stop by the member services desk. The aquatic department will call you to set up a convenient time to start helping you and your child accomplish your goals in the water!

Pool Rental
The JER Chilton Aquatic Center can be reserved for pool parties by our Family members. Please contact the YMCA at 972-772-9622 ext. 112 for availability. The pool can be reserved on Fridays from 8:00-10:00 p.m., Saturdays from 6:00-8:00 p.m., and Sundays from 5:00-7:00 p.m for private parties. Semi-private parties can be held on Saturdays between the hours of 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm and Sundays between the hours of 12:00 Noon and 5:00 pm. There is plenty of deck room for cake, pizza, or a full meal!
rental fees:
Private - $250.00 for 2 hours/ maximum of 50 people
Semi-Private - $150.00 for 2 hours; $75 each additional hour/maximum of 50
